Obituary for Valerie "Val" Moore

Print
Our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend Val passed away on Sunday 4 November 2018 at CapitalCare Norwood at the age of 76 years after a long illness, bravely borne.
Val was born in England but moved permanently to Canada in 1980 and later took Canadian citizenship. She worked as a Legal Assistant/Secretary for lawyers Wheatley Sadownik and Milner Fenerty until her retirement in 2008. She enjoyed reading, movies and nature walks and always had an interest in current affairs. In her youth she had campaigned as a member of CND. Val was an avid watcher of tv quiz programmes but never found herself lucky enough to get into the cash cab! She always financially supported public broadcaster KSPS and especially enjoyed watching the British programmes on Masterpiece Theatre and Mystery. After her retirement she went along with the Edmonton Nature Club on bird watching trips.
Val was an independent, reserved, compassionate person who contributed to many charitable causes. She will be remembered for her butterfly motifs and the earrings that she was never without! Val leaves behind one son, Paul; grandson, Cyrus; family in the UK who until her illness she visited regularly, and the good friends who became her second family here in Edmonton. Val was diagnosed with cancer in 2015 but was given a lifeline with pioneering drugs that prolonged her life long enough to ensure that she saw her grandson visit from the UK and make one final trip to lifelong friends on Vancouver Island.
She will be missed and loved by all who knew her.
Memorial Service Friday, November 9 at 3:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Funeral Home, 9709 111 Ave, Edmonton, to whom flowers may be sent or donations to the Cross Cancer Institute or KSPS Public Television.
